DevX / Microsoft® Windows ® XP Beta Site Privacy Statement Information
Because we gather information about DevX users who participate in the DevX Windows XP Developer Site, we want you to fully understand how we use the data that is collected and the conditions surrounding the information that will be captured.
Information gathering and tracking
DevX will gather three types of information about users of this site: 1) Data that users provide through voluntary registration on site; 2) aggregated tracking information derived through collection of traffic, page view, and download data; 3) data on points accumulation by user (see Points Program section of the Windows XP site). Such information enables us to better tailor our content for readers and will help our sponsor better understand the demographics of our audience. Because the Windows XP Developer site derives its support from Microsoft Corporation and the Windows XP Developer Evangelism group, providing such aggregated demographic data is essential as a performance measurement.
DevX shares the following information with Microsoft Corporation as part of the Windows XP Developer site project:
- Member Name
- Alias
- Company Name
- Email Address
- Aggregate demographic and traffic data
- Demographic member information
- Point system usage and award delivery
This information is provided on the contractual understanding with Microsoft Corporation that it is to be used solely and exclusively for the purpose of tracking developer site registrations and providing technical support and feedback in conjunction with the development of the Microsoft Windows XP product.
On a periodic basis, DevX may provide your Email Address to an outside consulting firm for one-time use in conducting opinion surveys. On such occasions, your Email Address will be restricted to delivery of the survey and will not be distributed to any additional parties for any reason. In addition, your Email Address and Alias will be used to automatically register you in our Discussion Boards. Again, this information will be used solely for participation in this area and will not be distributed to any additional third parties.
Electronic newsletters
DevX offers a free electronic newsletter to site users. DevX gathers the e-mail addresses of users who voluntarily subscribe to receive updates from DevX on Windows XP news. Customers may remove themselves from this mailing list by following the instructions contained in every newsletter.
Surveys
As part of this project, DevX will occasionally conduct user surveys to better target the content to the users of the site and get feedback from the registered membership. We will share the aggregated demographic information in these surveys with Microsoft on a monthly basis throughout this project. We will not share any information about specific individuals with any third party, except as noted previously.
Contests and sweepstakes
DevX offers a points accumulation program in which we request response to survey questions, registration or other actions in exchange for points that will be redeemable for products at the end of this project. This points program is conducted in full accordance with United States federal and state laws. Information gathered during the points program is used only to verify user identity and track the accumulation of points, except when specifically noted otherwise. We do not share information about specific individuals with any third party, except as noted previously.
Usage tracking
DevX tracks user traffic patterns and may choose to correlate it with data about individual users of the DevX Windows XP Developer site. DevX also tracks newsletter sign up, discussion group traffic, survey responses, and usage data that helps us gain better intelligence about the use of the site.
Cookies
Participation in this site requires the use of cookies. You must have cookies enabled in your browser to register or earn Reward Points. Uses of the information
DevX captures and uses information voluntarily given to us by our users in order to enhance their experience on the site, deliver timely, relevant information, and provide feedback to Microsoft's Windows XP development team, including feedback and bug reports on the features and functionality of the Microsoft Windows XP product. As stated above, DevX uses the information collected that users voluntarily provide in order to update the site with relevant content, send out electronic updates to users, as well as allow users to participate in discussions, points programs, and downloads. We send newsletters to subscribers on a regular schedule and occasionally send out special updates.
Your Alias is your public identity while participating in the Windows XP site. It will be used to identify you in the Discussion Boards, the Application Compatibility posts, Auctions, and public announcements related to the earning of Reward Points, e.g. 'Top Ten' lists. DevX reserves the right to use your Alias by additional means but will never publicly associate your chosen Alias with your Email, Member Name, Company Name or other identifying information you provide to us.
